Penrith five-eight James Maloney has sprayed journalist Phil Rothfield on Twitter after a column which suggested the playmaker didn’t look happy. Maloney responded on Monday regarding reports from a column, by Rothfield for News Corp, he looked unhappy. “I’ve never been one to worry about media talk but I’ve been made aware of some comments by Phil Rothfield over the wknd [sic] suggesting that I’m unhappy at Penrith and dirty on losing the captaincy which is complete bull***,” Maloney wrote on Twitter. Maloney was referring to the decision two weeks ago from Penrith coach Ivan Cleary to hand James Tamou the sole captaincy role, rather than share it among a six-man leadership group. The tweet on Monday prompted Rothfield to respond on NRL 360 a few hours later and defend the comments. “It was the night before the game, I didn’t want to disturb him so I rang his manager Wayne Beavis,” Rothfield told the show.
